Farmers and foodies together: how communities are working together to build strong regional food distribution This webinar for Hepburn Shire will introduce and discuss how collaborative models of farmers and their local communities are working together to create new food distribution models. Whether driven by farmers or eaters, there are a range of models to learn from. We will introduce the five critical success factors for regional food enterprises, and introduce the potential of the Open Food Network platform to support rapid establishment of these enterprises in your region. As COVID-19 hit, two community members in Violet Town wondered how they could quickly start working with farmers to set up a local food supply in their region. They quickly started Strathbogie Local, a volunteer run 'click and collect' online farmers market. The initiative supported farmers who had lost their primary source of revenue with the closure of restaurants and farmers markets and linked them to customers who wanted access to high quality local produce. It has continued as a weekly local shopping option for the Strathbogie region. Renata Cumming, Strathbogie Local co-founder, will share the nitty gritty of getting the project started, and highlight the role that keen community members can play in working with farmers to make something happen that works for their local region. If you have ever thought that you would like to see more local food supply but not known where to start, or how to make it happen, then this webinar is for you. You'll leave with ideas and inspiration from elsewhere, an understanding of different models, and some tips on how to take the first steps in strengthening your region's food distribution.
